PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a color shift for every color caused by the fact that a main scanning synchronous signal of a main scanning direction and an image formation start signal in a sub-scanning direction are non-synchronous, by considering a relationship of timing between colors in an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus writes a k-th main scanning synchronous signal giving an image formation start time nearest to a first color image formation start time and a first line of a second color by selecting a b-th beam, and writes the k-th main scanning synchronous signal giving the image formation start time nearest to an average of a maximum value and the minimum value of the image formation start time up to a (n-1)-th color and the first line of an n-th color (n≥3) by selecting the b-th beam.
