PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device, in which control performance similar to that when an A/F (air-fuel ratio) sensor is normal can be achieved even when the A/F sensor is not normal. SOLUTION: In this engine control device, an A/F value is calculated based on a signal from the A/F sensor, and engine control is executed using the calculated A/F value (the A/F value based on the A/F sensor). In a case where the A/F sensor is determined to be abnormal, a calculated value Ma for inflow air quantity to an engine divided by a calculated value Mb for fuel injection quantity is determined as a substitute A/F value to be used for engine control instead of using the A/F value based on the A/F sensor. In the device, when the A/F sensor is abnormal, a default value is not used instead of the A/F value based on the A/F sensor, but the substitute A/F value calculated based on actual inflow air quantity and fuel injection quantity is used, thereby finer and more precise engine control can be achieved.
