PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the presence or absence of breaking of a linear electrode for charge detection and an auxiliary linear electrode to be checked easily in a radiation solid state detector having the linear electrode for charge detection and the auxiliary linear electrode. SOLUTION: The radiation solid state detector is composed of: a solid state detecting section 20 equipped with a stripe electrode 26 made up of a number of elements (linear electrode for charge detection) 26a and a sub-stripe electrode 27 made up of a number of elements (auxiliary linear electrode) 27a; a test signal generating means 30 for generating a test signal; and a connection switching means which connects the sub-stripe electrode 27 to either the test signal generating means 30 or the ground. The test signal is input to the elements 27a, and a crosstalk signal output from the elements 26a adjacent to the elements 27a is detected, and then the crosstalk signal is compared with a prescribed reference signal.
