<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosensitive recording medium, in which the change of an image density and color tone with time is suppressed and by which a highly dense and high image quality image can be formed and which is especially suitable for visually diagnosing with a backlight by an X film illuminator method or for referencing, and an image forming method for forming an image on the thermosensitive recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: In the thermosensitive recording medium comprising a support, a thermosensitive recording layer formed on the support, and a protective layer formed on the thermosensitive recording layer, wherein the thermosensitive recording layer comprises a resin, a leuco dye, a developer, and an antoxidant. The developer includes general formula (1), wherein R<SB>1</SB>represents a 4-16C straight chained alkyl group or alkyl amino group.
