<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with which a stereoscopic image with high resolution is displayed, and which is easily manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device, on the side opposite to the observer's side of a liquid crystal display panel 1 in which image data for the left eye and that for the right eye are selectively written, a surface light source 15 is disposed comprising a light guide plate 16 having an oblong and rectangular outline corresponding to a screen shape of the liquid crystal display panel 1 and emitting light to the liquid crystal display panel 1 side, and a light source portion 28 which selectively emits toward an incident surface 17 of the light guide plate 16: first light with directivity having a peak of light intensity in a direction inclined to either of the right-hand side and the left-hand side with respect to the vertical direction existing therein; and second light with directivity having a peak of light intensity in a direction inclined to the other side existing therein, and emitting the first light from the light source portion 28 as illumination light for the left eye, and the second light as that for the right eye. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
