PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a photographing device capable of preventing the generation of useless power consumption by a display means without requiring complicated operation, and to provide a display control method. SOLUTION: A digital camera 10 includes a remote controller (remocon) for tranmitting indication information which indicates the execution of photography processing by an operation, a liquid crystal display (LCD 38) for displaying a predetermined picture, an infrared light receiver 64 for receiving the indication information transmitted by the remote control, and a CPU40 for executing the processing indicated by the indication information when the indication information is received by the infrared light receiver 64. When the remote control is located beyond a prescribed distance, the CPU40 forbids displaying a picture by the LCD 38. When the display of a picture is forbidden and also when the remote control is located within the prescribed distance, the prohibition of the display of a picture by LCD 38 is canceled.
