948,006. Colour television tubes. COM. PAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. May 2, 1960 [April 30, 1959], No. 15427/60. Heading H1D. A colour television receiver screen of the kind comprising transparent coloured filters associated with a layer of pigments adapted to produce a white luminescence is provided with colour filters constituted by transparent coloured glass filaments which are arranged parallel to the conducting elements of a colour-selection grid. The colour-selection grid may be an independent metal grid in which case the gridwires are masked from view by non-transparent glass filaments arranged with the filter filaments on the screen. Alternatively, the selection grid may be built into the screen using metal coated non-transparent glass filaments. The filaments may be preformed into a pliable sheet by arranging them parallel to each other on a temporary support and joining them by a removable binding material, the pliable sheet then being secured to the base or a sheet may be produced by arranging the coloured filaments into a warp and weaving through them a loose weft which is removed after the sheet is applied to the base. Alternatively, the base may be caused to pass below three spinnerets each producing filaments of a different colour and disposing the filaments on the support in the required colour order.
