摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching memory element using a physical variation obtained from a strain occurrence phenomena yielded by straining a liquid crystal field. SOLUTION: The switching memory element comprises a light transmissive first member having a first alignment face performing alignment treatment on a liquid crystal, a light transmissive second member provided with a second alignment face having restraining force to liquid crystal alignment of intensity different from the first alignment face on a face opposite to the first alignment face, the liquid crystal enclosed freely to flow into a space formed between the first alignment face and the second alignment face, and a light measuring means for measuring light passing through a liquid crystal alignment field formed between the first member and the second member by irradiating the first member and the second member with light.
