<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate connection to an appropriate interface in upgrading an image forming apparatus from a monochrome image forming apparatus to a color image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: a monochrome unit 1 forming a monochrome image; a color unit 7 forming a color image other than the monochrome image; and a base unit 3 including a base power supply 6. The monochrome unit 1 is equipped with a controller for monochrome 3 acting when the color unit 7 is not attached and controlling respective parts 2a related to an image forming engine for monochrome 2, and an information fetching means for monochrome 4 shielded from the outside by a shielding means 11 when the color unit 7 is attached. The color unit 7 is equipped with a controller for color 9 acting when the color unit 7 is attached and controlling the respective parts 2a and 8a related to the image forming engine for monochrome 2 and an image forming engine for color 8, and an information fetching means for color 10 fetching input information from the outside. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
