PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the crater end position of a continuously cast casting piece in a perfect non-contact state. SOLUTION: This coagulation judging method of a casting piece has: a sending step for repeatedly sending a transversal ultrasonic wave to a casting piece 1 as a transmission signal by a transmitting electromagnetic ultrasonic sensor for a transversal wave; a receiving step for receiving the transmission signal of the send signal transmitted through the casting piece by a receiving electromagnetic ultrasonic sensor for the transversal wave; and a judging step for making the addition averaging of respective pulses in the receiving signal received in the receiving step and setting the addition averaging number of times to a range from 16 times to the number of times of pulses corresponding to a time width of a degree not causing the setting-off and lowering of the signal intensity due to pulse addition by a change in a signal propagation time to perform signal processing and judging the coagulation state of the casting piece on the basis of the signal processing result.
