Disclosed is a method for delignifying lignocellulosic raw materials using sulfites in the presence of an alkaline component in an aqueous solution while applying high temperatures and pressures. Wherein at the beginning of a pulping process a first portion of the alkaline component is added to the aqueous solution and that at least one second portion of the alkaline component is added to the aqueous solution at the beginning of delignification or later.
