The invention relates to a device and to a method to drive away birds, especially pigeons, by generating a magnetic field. In order to develop a device and a method of said type which drives birds away in an optimum manner, a winding (1) of an electric conductor comprising at least one coil (2,3,4) is disposed on the area where the birds are to be driven away from, and a current, especially an alternating current, is fed into the electric conductor through an electric control device (7).
