<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retain satisfactory charging performance in an imaging device by reducing an amount of toner escaping from a cleaning device during non-transfer image formation in which transfer on a transfer material is not conducted and much toner is input into the cleaning device. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging device includes a non-contact type charger disposed opposite to, for example, a photoreceptor with a gap between them. When images are formed, a charging bias in which a DC bias and an AC bias overlap is applied to charge the photoreceptor. In such an imaging device, the AC bias is turned off before a non-transfer image formed on the photoreceptor reaches the cleaning device during non-transfer image formation in which transfer to a transfer material is not conducted, such as during adjustment image formation in which a pattern image for adjustment for retaining an image is formed after transfer image formation in which an image is transferred to a transfer material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
