PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for obtaining a single crystal having a large size, as an apparatus and a method for manufacturing an oxide single crystal. SOLUTION: The apparatus for manufacturing the single crystal has: a crucible 3 into which a raw material is filled; a high frequency induction coil 10 for forming a melt 2 by heating/melting the raw material in the crucible 3; a pulling shaft 6 for pulling the single crystal 1 from the melt 2; and a plate-like convection-suppressing structure 12 having a surface 12a arranged close to the liquid surface 2a of the melt 2 and suppressing the occurrence of convection of the melt 2 in the vicinity of the liquid surface 2a.
