TUNNELING METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MULTICASTING BETWEEN IPV4 NETWORK AND IPV6 NETWORK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunneling apparatus and method in which multicasting can be performed between an IPv4 network and an IPv6 network using transmission source address information and destination address information of an IPv6 format contained in a multicast packet without requiring a separate table for inter-network address translation when performing tunneling between IPv6 networks via the IPv4 network.

SOLUTION: In a tunneling method for multicasting between an IPv4 network and an IPv6 network, when a destination network is an IPv6 network connected to the IPv4 network, transmission source and multicast destination addresses of the IPv4 network are extracted from transmission source and multicast destination addresses contained in an IPv6 multicast packet, the IPv6 multicast packet is capsulated into an IPv4 format and multicast-tunneled to the IPv6 network through the IPv4 network by referring to the multicast table.
