METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DECISION THRESHOLD CONTROL IN OPTICAL SIGNAL RECEIVER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for decision threshold control in an optical signal receiver.

SOLUTION: A forward error correction (FEC) decoder provides a feedback signal representative of corrected errors. A decision threshold is adjusted to balance numbers of corrected ones and zeros. Namely, the decision threshold is controlled to reduce a difference between the number of corrected ones and the number of corrected zeros. At such a time, a threshold modification width may also be changed in accordance with a magnitude of unbalancing.
