PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-lamp type discharge lamp lighting device capable of stabilizing and uniformalizing each tube current of a plurality of discharge lamps at low cost without preparing any ballast element at a secondary winding side of an inverter transformer. SOLUTION: The multi-lamp type discharge lamp lighting device 10 comprises an inverter means 12 and a plurality of inverter transformers TR<SB>1</SB>to TR<SB>n</SB>. Secondary windings Ns1 to Nsn of the inverter transformers are connected to the discharge lamps La<SB>1</SB>to La<SB>n</SB>respectively, and a balance inductance element BI<SB>i</SB>is arranged between primary windings of the adjacent inverter transformers TR<SB>i</SB>, TR<SB>l+1</SB>. Each balance inductance element BI<SB>i</SB>has a dense joint part and a sparse joint part. The dense joint part serves as a balance coil and the sparse joint part serves as a ballast impedance element, by the above, each tube current can be stabilized and uniformized without using any element having high breakdown voltage.
