PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quicken retrieval by suppressing the increase of false drop to be generated in extracting block signature from document data. SOLUTION: The number of characters of each block is made uniform, and document data are divided so that the number of characters of each block can be set so as to be the number of characters of a proper block or less, and signature is extracted. Thus, it is possible to suppress the increase of false drop to be generated in extracting block signature from document data, and improvement in speed of searching can be attained.
