The unit has a connection area (8) with line connections and lying outside areas of a heating surface (4), and formed in a single-piece foil lug (14) which runs from a foil edge (12) of a substrate (2). Heat conducting paths (6) run into line conducting paths of the lug that runs parallel to the edge. The line conducting paths runs parallel to each other up to the connection area that is formed at free ends of the lug. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a mirror unit for an automobile`s exterior mirror (B) a method of manufacturing a surface heating unit.
