<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that safely initializes the state of a device inexpensively by using serial inter-processor communication. <P>SOLUTION: A strobe signal on serial communication is supplied to a clock input terminal of a clock monitoring means (such as a watchdog timer), so that the strobe signal can have two functions as a strobe signal for serial communication and a clock for watchdog timer control to reduce the number of signal lines.
