摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that an error rate is deteriorated since the output of a magnetic head is changed by dependence on the environmental temperature of a magnetic disk and the head output is remarkably reduced mainly owing to the increase of coercivity in a magnetic recording medium, especially, under the condition of low temperature. SOLUTION: The sense current optimizing processing of a magnetic disk device includes steps for measuring the environmental temperature (S101, S102); and steps for searching a sense current Is which indicates the most excellent error rate (BER) at the temperature by defining a sense current value set from the viewpoint of reliability in the magnetic head 23 as an upper limit (S103-S108). The error rate is measured inside the magnetic disk device, while changing the value of the sense current Is, and the sense current Is_opt, by which the most excellent error rate characteristic is obtained, is selected so as to be defined as a new setting value (S110).
