Improved design of pencil lead is fully or partially coated with a protective layer to reduce production of dust and debris

An improved design of pencil lead for conventional pencils, propelling pencils and artistic drawing aids has the lead provided with an outer protective layer either partially or fully. The coating can be a noble metal and can include easily read markings for lead type, and can be vapour coated to a thickness of between 1 and 3000 nano metres.
