PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device and a building for a multiple dwelling house attaining space saving of the building and improving crime preventiveness. SOLUTION: A plurality of stories of the building 1 for the multiple dwelling house is provided with housing sections 2 comprising living rooms 5 and vehicle rooms 6 adjoining the living rooms 5. The building 1 for the multiple dwelling house is provided with a hoistway 7 adjoining the respective vehicle rooms 6. First and second transport cars 12, 13 are liftably provided in the hoistway 7. The first and second transport cars 12, 13 are lifted inside the hoistway 7 by the driving force of a hoisting machine 14 provided in the hoistway 7. A control device 38 for controlling the hoisting machine 14 is provided in the hoistway 7. The first and second transport cars 12, 13 are provided with first and second outside doorways 25, 29 openable/closable for communication between the inside of the respective vehicle rooms 6 and the inside of the first and second transport cars 12, 13.
