PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer capable of preventing a density variation in an image in a simple structure. SOLUTION: A thermal head 21 is fixed by a bolt 35 after the thermal head 21 is set such that recessed sections 33 formed on both end sections 23a, 23b of a head substrate 23 in the main scanning direction are engaged with pins 39 formed on support plates 26, 27. Each of the pins 39 is formed such that the height H is greater than the depth D of the recessed section 33. As a result of the above structure, each pin 39 functions as a spacer so that a gap having a thickness L is formed between the head substrate 23 and the support plates 26, 27, and the gap is filled with an air having a low heat conductivity. Consequently, the transfer of the heat from the head substrate 23 to the support plates 26, 27 is blocked and the lowering of the temperature of both the end sections is suppressed so that it is possible to uniformly maintain the temperature of the thermal head 21.
