A tyre comprises a tread strip, carcass reinforcing plies 2 or reinforcing plies 2, 7 of the carcass and a circumferentially inextensible belt, respectively, having overlapping regions 5, 8, with a rubber layer 9 therebetween, each region having less axial width than the tread strip, and at least one circumferentially continuous rubber strip 10 arranged radially adjacent and of substantially the same axial extent as each region, strip 10 being harder than layer 9. As shown, each breaker ply 7 overlaps a carcass ply 2 in the shoulder regions of the tyre, and a strip 10 is positioned between the overlapped pairs. Two strips 10 may be provided at each region to enclose a pair of overlapping plies therebetween. |
