PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to immediately know what kinds of scenes are recorded on a recording medium and to readily carry out an index search for a desired scene. SOLUTION: The image reproducing device, such as a digital video camera, capable of reproducing the image data of the recording medium recorded with search image data in addition to the main image data is equipped with an index image data generation means for capturing the search image data recorded to the recording medium and generating index image data, an information acquisition means for acquiring the additional information relating to each piece of the search image data captured into the index image data, and a transmission means for transmitting the index image data and the additional information to an external equipment. The index search for a scene represented by each search image can be readily carried out, for example, by including the recording position information of the search image data into the additional information and utilizing the same.
