<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can output a black-and-white image even when the apparatus can not perform color image formation because detection of a reference position of an intermediate transfer body results in an abnormal state. <P>SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus produces a color image by superposing a plurality of monochromatic images on an intermediate transfer body and transfers the color image onto a paper medium, wherein the apparatus comprises a means to monitor whether the intermediate transfer body operates at a predetermined speed or not and to output an error signal when the intermediate transfer body performs operations other than predetermined ones. When a control device accepts the error signal, it changes a color image into a black-and-white image/monochromatic image according to the input image data to produce a black-and-white image and a monochromatic image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
