<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress data while suppressing resolution degradation and block noise and securing the quality of video images. <P>SOLUTION: Video signals are supplied through a horizontal/vertical filter 10 to an FNR circuit 30, and correlation with the video signals by one frame backward in a frame memory 31 is extracted in a frame correlation extraction circuit 34. A characteristic control circuit 20 controls the frequency characteristics in horizontal and vertical directions of the horizontal/vertical filter 10 corresponding to the correlation value. The FNR circuit 30 is provided with a recursive filter which adds the video signals from the horizontal/vertical filter 10 and the video signals from the frame memory 31 by a ratio corresponding to the correlation. When the correlation is low, the horizontal/vertical filter 10 limits the band of the video signals and attains the video signals of a narrow band, and the recursive filter does not act in the FNR circuit 30. When the correlation is high, the horizontal/vertical filter 10 does not limit the band, the recursive filter acts to suppress random noise in the FNR circuit 30. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
