PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent jamming during paper conveyance by detecting that a paper cassette is not loaded in an image recording device. SOLUTION: A cassette detecting part 41 is provided on a multi-stage tray 32a loaded in the image recording device 31, and a projected part 40 is provided in the paper cassette 2 loaded in the upper part of the multi-stage tray 32a. The cassette detecting part 41 comprises a light detector 44 and a rotatable lever 46. When the paper cassette 2 is properly loaded in a predetermined position, the lever 46 is pressed by the projected part 40 and, as the light detector 44 detects this, the loading of the paper cassette 2 is detected, allowing, in this case, paper feeding operation to be performed.
