PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk device capable of suppressing a peak current required for starting a spindle motor rotation at a level equivalent to that for a parallel communication even in a case of a serial communication, without prolonging time to reach steady state rotating speed, and to provide a control method therefor. SOLUTION: An HDD 100 comprises a serial communication circuit 127 for communicating with a host, an SPM 114 for rotating the disk, and an HDC/MPU 123 for controlling the SPM 114 and the serial communication circuit 127. When the rotating speed of the SPM 114 reaches a predetermined reference value after stopping the serial communication circuit 127, the HDC/MPU 123 starts the serial communication circuit 127 and establishes serial communication with the host by the serial communication circuit 127.
