Disclosed is an exhaust gas system (12) of an internal combustion engine (10), particularly in a motor vehicle, comprising a first filter mechanism (16) and a second filter mechanism (18) that is mounted downstream thereof, both filter mechanisms (16, 18) filtering soot particles out of the exhaust gas. At least the first filter mechanism (16) is provided with a catalytic material which promotes exothermic soot combustion in such a way that soot starts burning in the second filter mechanism (18) as a result of the exhaust gas being heated accordingly. According to the invention, the materials of the two filter mechanisms (16, 18) are selected such that soot combustion in the first filter mechanism (16) starts at a lower temperature and/or is more intense than in the second filter mechanism (18) at a similar temperature. |
