The present invention discloses a system and method for rendering an audio signal over a wireless communication device (10) where the video signal associated with the audio signal is being output to one or more displays (48) in an audio-video system (40). The audio-video system (40) includes a controller that outputs the video signal to the one or more displays (48), and a transceiver (54) that transmits an audio signal associated with the video signal to the wireless communication device (10). A transceiver in the wireless communication device (10) receives the transmitted audio signal from the audio-video system (40), and an audio processing circuit renders the audio signal as audible sound to the user of the wireless communication device (10).
