PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent heating of a main burner by pilot flame. SOLUTION: The combustion device has the main burner 2 supplying fuel through a main fuel gas pipe 1, a pilot burner 4 supplying fuel through a pilot fuel gas pipe 3, and a blower 8 supplying combustion air to the burners. It is a premix type carrying out combustion at tip sides of the burners by mixing fuel gas jetted from the main burner 2 and the pilot burner 4 with the combustion air supplied to the tip sides of the burners from the blower 8 through a draft duct 9. A cooling air passage 7 sending air sent through the draft duct 9 into the main fuel gas pipe 1 is provided in a midway part of the draft duct 9. During pilot combustion carrying out combustion of the pilot burner 4 for a comparatively long time, control of supplying air from a draft duct 8 to the main fuel gas pipe 1 is carried out, and during main combustion carrying out combustion by the main burner 2, control of cutting off air supply into the main fuel gas pipe 1 is carried out.
