PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a less discolored polyether polyol at high selectivity and in a high yield by dehydration condensation of a polyol. SOLUTION: In producing a polyether polyol by dehydration condensation, a solid acid catalyst satisfying at least one of the following (1)-(3) is used;(1) -3 or higher of an acidity function H<SB>0</SB>measured by Hammett's indicator adsorption method, (2) an ammonia removal amount at 100-350°C range of 60% or more of the total ammonia removal amount (25-700°C range) in the temperature programmed desorption method (TPD) of ammonia, and(3) water removal amount in the thermogravimetric analysis (TG) of 3 wt% or more of a standard weight in a range of 32-250°C.
