PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus and a coating method by which the required quantity of a coating agent is uniformly applied. SOLUTION: When an adhesive is supplied to a servo pump 4 via a cable 7 from a pressure pump 6, the servo pump 4 is driven before a gun valve 5 is opened and sufficient supply pressure is loaded on the adhesive. Then, a prescribed quantity of the adhesive is discharged to a steel sheet 31 successively right after the gun valve 5 is opened and "tapering off" of the adhesive is not caused. When the gun valve 5 is closed, though the remaining adhesive in the nozzle is discharged without interruption, since the coating gun is moved, the adhesive is not discharged concentrically to one place and a "lump" is not caused. That is, the necessary quantity of the adhesive is uniformly applied by carrying out a control that the servo pump 4 is driven before the movement of the coating gun 2 is started and the gun valve 5 is closed before the movement of the coating gun 2 is finished.
