<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate life management of a cartridge even when the cartridge is replaced while a control means of a main body is unable to recognize that the cartridge is replaced when a cover of the main body is opened during rotation of a developing rotary, when the power source is turned off, etc. <P>SOLUTION: A cartridge memory of each cartridge is stored in identification information on the cartridge. A main body memory 105 is stored with identification information on each cartridge, and information, regarding a life, on the remaining amount of toner etc., is updated each time development is carried out.
