<p>The electric heater, especially as an auxiliary heater for motor vehicles, includes a PTC heating element (52), a power semiconductor (51) to establish the current fed to the PTC heating element, and a control unit (50) to control the power semiconductor. A monitoring unit (53) determines whether the power semiconductor is supplying current to the PTC heating element, and a breaker element (54,55) interrupts the current supply to the power semiconductor. The control unit causes operation of the breaker if the monitoring unit senses a current supply without a corresponding triggering of the power semiconductor by the control unit being produced. An independent claim is included for a method for the control of an electric heater, especially as an auxiliary heater for motor vehicles.</p> |
