<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a transparent sintered compact comprising destroying debris of a precursor generated by pyrolysis or calcination of basic magnesium carbonate with a chloride ion to produce a fine magnesia powder in which particles are separated one by one, and sintering by using the magnesia powder. <P>SOLUTION: The transparent magnesia sintered compact is produced by the method comprising the steps of dispersing bulky basic magnesium carbonate, where flaky particles of 99 wt.% or higher purity are three dimensionally flocculated, in a solvent, mixing the solvent with a solvent in which a chloride equivalent to 0.1-15 mol% chloride ion is dissolved, drying the mixed liquid, calcining the dried matter at 600-1,200°C, forming the obtained magnesia powder into a green compact, and firing the green compact at 1,200-1,900°C. In another embodiment, the transparent magnesia sintered compact is produced by the method comprising the steps of dispersing magnesia powder particles obtained by calcining bulky basic magnesium carbonate, where flaky particles of 99 wt.% or higher purity are three dimensionally flocculated, at a temperature higher than the pyrolyzing temperature and 1,100°C or lower in a solvent, mixing the solvent with a solvent in which a chloride equivalent to 0.1-15 mol% chloride ion is dissolved, drying it, calcining it at 600-1,200°C, forming the obtained magnesia powder into a green compact, and firing the green compact at 1,200-1,900°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
