PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method determining the shape of a press forming die in shorter period of time than heretofore. SOLUTION: The initial die shape is temporarily set (a step S1), one or more virtual cross sections are selected with the initial die shape (a step S2), two-dimensional calculation is performed in the virtual cross sections and an amount of spring back of a formed material in the cross sections after the press forming is predicted (a step S3). Next, the virtual die shape is temporarily set so as to compensate the amount of spring back in the virtual cross sections (a step S7), calculation by a three-dimensional finite element method is performed with the virtual die shape, and the amount of the formed material after the press forming is predicted (a step S8).
