PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material which retains the designability of a base material even in case an external force is applied, and a method for manufacturing the composite material. SOLUTION: This composite material is composed of a ductile base material and a coverage part formed on the ductile base material. The coverage part contains (A) silica or at least, one kind selected from the group of the average composition formula RpSiO(4-p)/2 (wherein, R is an organic group; X is at least one kind selected from the group consisting of an alkoxy group, halogen and a nitrogen containing group; and p is the number satisfying 0<p<4) and (B) a plastic polymer particle. In addition, the composite material is characterized in that an uneven structure with a projecting part corresponding to a self-formed plastic polymer particle, is formed on the surface of the covering part.
