PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing system where various functions including a data protection function are added by connecting an image processing unit to a data processor, and that can effectively operate the data processor when properly connecting the data processor to the image processing unit. SOLUTION: When it is detected that a security box 2 is connected via a USB interface 17, a control unit 10 in a composite machine 1 requests a user to input authentication data for authentication. When validity in the authentication data inputted from the user is authenticated, the control unit 10 enables data to be transmitted to and received from the security box 2 via the USB cable 100.
