<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous electrolyte lithium secondary battery excellent in charge/discharge cycle characteristics and having high capacity and high energy density. <P>SOLUTION: The aqueous electrolyte lithium secondary battery 1 comprises a positive electrode 2, a negative electrode 3, and an aqueous solution of an electrolyte formed by dissolving a lithium salt in water. The positive electrode 2 contains a lithium composite oxide having an olivine structure represented by a compositional formula of LiMPO<SB>4</SB>(where M is at least one selected from the group consisting of Fe, Mn, Ni and Co), as a positive electrode active material. The negative electrode 3 contains a Mn-containing compound as a negative electrode active material. As the Mn-containing compound, employed is a compound that stores or releases Li by oxidation or reduction of Mn in a potential range of 2.2 V to 3.0 V where Li is taken as the reference. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
