PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot press method and an apparatus therefor, which can greatly reduce electric power consumption. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with: a fixed hot plate 11 and a movable hot plate 12, which are opposed to each other; a hydraulic cylinder 1 for moving the movable hot plate; a hydraulic pump 4 for moving the hydraulic cylinder 1; a pressure sensor 3 for detecting a discharging pressure; an electropneumatic regulator 8, which converts a pressure signal 7 from the pressure sensor 3 into an air pressure; and an air booster 5. The apparatus is composed such that the pressure signal 7 from the pressure sensor 3 is sent to the electropneumatic regulator 8 to control on/off operation of a motor 6 and the pressure of the air booster.
