Cruise control with interval sensing for a motor vehicle

The system has a distance sensing arrangement that automatically ensures a minimum separation is maintained from a preceding vehicle, not only at higher vehicle speeds, but also in stop and go mode. A uniform system structure is presented to the driver that is not ostensibly divided into several different speed ranges, although the system reacts differently in stop and go mode than in higher speed ranges.
