PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new water-soluble copolymer excellent in detergency to hydrophobic stains and suitable for a builder for a detergent, to provide a method for producing the same, and to provide a use of the same. SOLUTION: This water-soluble copolymer for the builder for the detergent contains at least one kind selected from structural units of specified two types derived from unsaturated carboxylic acid-based monomers, at least one kind selected from structural units of specified three types derived from unsaturated polyalkylene glycol-based monomers, and a structural unit (3a) derived from an (meth)acrylic acid-based monomer having 1 to 3 amino groups and/or an (meth)acrylamide-based monomer as essential components, wherein the structural unit (3a) is contained in a ratio of 1-80 wt% based on the total structural units.
