A shield comprises a conical shaped structure 5 formed from a malleable plastic material with a flanged rim 6. The apex of the cone 4 is continuous with the neck section 3 which attaches to the proximal end of the irrigation apparatus 8. The shield is attached to the irrigation tube with self adhesive tape 2 which also forms a watertight seal. The system of irrigating or washing wounds or tissues during surgical procedures known as pulse lavage creates a risk from the rebound and splashing of contaminated fluids and tissue. The shield acts as a containment device for such material. |
