PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-versatility document image decision device. SOLUTION: This document image decision device 2 extracts a plurality of characteristic amounts from a document image, calculates Mahalanobis distance (a distance in a reference space) on the basis of the extracted characteristic amounts and reference characteristic amounts (characteristic amounts extracted from a reference document group placed in a plurality of directions) associated to the plurality of directions, compares the Mahalanobis distances calculated in the respective directions, and decides a direction of the document image.
