<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of having high luminance and obtaining a high contrast ratio and sufficient color compensation. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device of the present invention is constituted by stacking and arranging a 2nd retardation plate of 120 to 140 nm in optical path difference Δnd, a 1st retardation plate of 260 to 280 nm in optical path difference Δnd, and a 1st polarizing plate in order on a display-surface-side main surface of a liquid crystal panel and a 3rd retardation plate of 120 to 140 nm in optical path difference Δnd, a 4th phase difference plate of 260 to 280 nm in optical path difference Δnd, and a 2nd polarizing plate on a non-display-surface-side main surface. When viewed from a display surface based upon a mean value of rubbing directions of both the surfaces of twisted nematic liquid crystal, the axis of drawing of the 1st retardation plate is set to 130 to 140°, the axis of drawing of the 2nd retardation plate is set to 70 to 80°, the axis of absorption of the 1st retardation plate to 145 to 155°, the axis of drawing of the 3rd retardation plate to 115 to 125°, the axis of drawing of the 4th retardation plate to 55 to 65°, and the axis of absorption of the 2nd polarizing plate to 130 to 140°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
