PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a material testing machine equipped with a pneumatic cylinder as an actuator of a load mechanism by overcoming problems in using the pneumatic cylinder as the actuator of the load mechanism for the testing machine. SOLUTION: The pneumatic cylinder 5 is used as the actuator of the load mechanism. Cushioning materials 11 provide cushioning effect by severally mounting the cushioning materials 11 on stroke end parts of the cylinder 5 on both sides thereof or on pressure receiving surfaces on both sides of a piston 5b. In addition thereto, attenuation in response caused by compression of air is reduced and a resonance frequency is increased by reducing an excessive air gap other than a stroke required for test in a cylinder body 5a.
