PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle distance control device capable of precluding a rear-end collision owing to insufficient inter-vehicle distance with a high probability and free of a risk to give a sense of incongruity to the driver even if changing-over is made from the normal running to the decelerative running. SOLUTION: The inter-vehicle distance control device is equipped with an inter-vehicle distance sensing means 1 to sense the inter-vehicle distance with a foregoing vehicle, a vehicle speed sensing means 2 to sense the speed of the own vehicle, a relative speed computing means 4A1 to compute the relative speed on the basis of the inter-vehicle distance, a target deceleration setting means 4A2 to set the target deceleration on the basis of the relative speed, the speed of the own vehicle, and the inter-vehicle distance, a constant deceleration control means 4A3 to execute the constant deceleration control of the vehicle in conformity to the set target deceleration, and a notifying means 6 to notify the driver of the constant deceleration control of being in effect.
